Associate Professor

Dr. Leslie Kemp Poole is an Associate Professor of Environmental Studies and an award-winning writer and historian. A fourth-generation Floridian, she has long been interested in the role of women in the state’s environmental movement and how they were saving the state’s important natural resources even before they were able to vote.

Her professional interests and specializations include the history of the environmental movement, particularly the grassroots organizers that, in Florida and across the country, included many women. She is the author of five books, including Saving Florida: Women's Fight for the Environment in the Twentieth Century and Tracing Florida Landscapes: Explorers, Travelers, and Landscapes Then and Now.

In her spare time, she likes to hike and kayak around the state.
