In alignment with the conference’s theme, Literacy: The Door to a Better World, the three faculty members jointly presented their collaborative research project, “Attitudes Toward Diversity Among Future Educators: Inside a Teacher Preparation Program.”

In addition to their collaborative presentation, Manak shared her research, “Blurring Boundaries: The Power of Transdisciplinary Literacy Learning,” Surian presented “Teaching in Full Color: Illuminating Identity and Empathy Through Story,” and Hunt-Barron presented “Embedding Pre-Service Teachers in Schools: Improving Reading Instruction and Reading Achievement for Diverse Learners.”

The conference theme and its accompanying subthemes emphasized the importance of literacy as a catalyst for positive change while seeking to elevate diverse voices, promote inclusivity, and highlight the power of collaboration in building a better world.

Organized by the Federation of European Literacy Associations (FELA), the European Conference on Literacy convenes educators, researchers, and literacy organizations from across Europe to exchange research, promote best practices, and advance literacy education through collaboration and professional development.
