Brooke Barnett Headshot

Barnett reflects on how liberal arts education is uniquely positioned to prepare students for a rapidly evolving, AI-driven world. She describes the liberal arts as a modern form of Renaissance thinking—one that prioritizes critical human capabilities such as discernment, ethical judgment, and effective communication. Barnett underscores that while technology continues to advance, these distinctly human skills will become even more essential in helping graduates navigate complexity and lead with clarity and purpose.

Barnett also highlights an innovative model at Rollins that blends hospitality, art, and philanthropy. She discusses The Alfond Inn, a college-owned hotel that functions as a “living art museum,” where guests can engage with curated works while contributing to a broader mission. What distinguishes this approach, she notes, is that all net proceeds are directed toward student scholarships—creating a tangible link between experiential spaces and student success. This model exemplifies how institutions can think creatively about revenue generation while staying aligned with educational values. A central theme in Barnett’s remarks is the enduring ethos of service at Rollins College.

She points to the legacy of alumnus Fred Rogers as a defining influence, particularly his personal motto, “Life is for service.” Barnett emphasizes that this philosophy continues to shape the college’s culture, reinforcing a commitment to community engagement, empathy, and purpose-driven leadership. Through these reflections, she positions Rollins as an institution that not only adapts to the future but remains grounded in deeply held values.
