The University of Sydney (USyd) is one of the oldest and most prestigious institutions in Australia and is ranked among the top 50 universities in the world. There are just under 50,000 students. USyd is situated on a beautiful and stately campus, surrounded by many unique neighborhoods that are known for their offbeat artistic culture and café scene.

Academic Information
Australian Studies Courses
Students must take at least one Australian Studies focused class: choose two to allow for flexibility. Examples include: Introduction to Australian Urbanism, America and Australia: the issues compared, Sport and Learning in Australian Culture, etc.
USyd Courses
Choose your other three courses from the many other offerings. As you search, make sure to note that Semester 2 is Fall and Semester 1 is Spring.

Transfer of Credit
- Students must take four courses for a total of 16 credits; one course from the list of "Australian Studies Courses,*" and three courses directly from the courses available in the University catalogue.
- Grades appear on Rollins Transcript and factor into GPA.
- It can take up to three months for grades to be processed.
- Students can take major and minor courses abroad (with approval from the academic department) and can also take competencies and rFLA200-level seminars abroad (with approval from the Registrar).
Australian Educational System
- Fewer class hours per week, less contact with professors and less continuous assessment. Most professors have a lecture-based teaching style.
- Grades are based on only a few major assignments, such as a midterm and final exam.
- First-year students are already focused in their major or specialization, so introductory courses cover higher level topics. 200-level or second year courses are the equivalent of an upper-level course at Rollins.
- Self-discipline and self-directed study are required for success. Students are expected to keep up with coursework and reading without prompting.

Housing & Meals
- Students live in off-campus student accommodations in a double-occupancy room with a private bathroom inside a 4-room apartment with shared kitchen, dining, and lounge.
- Apartments are centrally located and are about a 20-minute walk to USyd.
- The apartment building houses multiple community areas and social spaces to mingle with other students at the property, all of whom are students studying in Sydney.
- Students can buy groceries and cook in their shared kitchen, as there is no meal plan. Grocery stores, cafes, and restaurants are within walking distance of student apartments. Cheap Eats Out and Easy Make-it-Yourself Meals
Student Life
- TEAN arranges various activities during the semester, including: a rugby league match, a performance at the Sydney opera house, and surf lessons.
- Join the USyd Union to access to various recreational facilities, dining services, and student clubs.
- Join the Sports Union to play intramural sports, take fitness classes, and use the world class athletic facilities.
- TEAN offers optional pre- and mid-semester excursions to exciting locations such as New Zealand, Thailand, and other interesting cities around Australia. These excursions are an additional cost.

Requirements for Admission
- Juniors and Seniors
- Clean record with the Office of Community Standards and good academic and college standing
- Professional application: materials are submitted on-time, are edited before submission, and are thorough and thoughtful
- Minimum 3.2 GPA
- Faculty interview: qualified applicants will be notified after the deadline to organize the interview
- Required advising session (30 minutes) as part of the application process. Visit MyRollins to schedule an advising appointment.
Additional Requirements for Internships
- Approved from IP - the internship, in combination with coursework, is extremely demanding
- Strong resume, cover letter, and successful Internship Interview
- Prerequisites: INB Students must have completed at least one of the following courses: INB 337, INB 365, INB 372
- Some majors have specific course prerequisites for the internship; contact your faculty advisor or International Programs for more information.
Getting There

Flight
Students arrange their own flights to Cairns and then Sydney, but TEAN can assist through one of their preferred vendors.
PLEASE NOTE: TEAN does NOT provide transportation from Cairns to Sydney. Students will be responsible for purchasing their own airfare between the two cities.

Orientation
TEAN offers a 6-day “Welcome Abroad” Orientation in Cairns, North Australia, led by TEAN staff to introduce students to the culture and get to know their classmates while enjoying a week of adventure, including scuba diving and snorkeling the largest coral reef system in the world.

Visa
- U.S. citizens must obtain a visa to study in Australia and TEAN will assist with the process.
- The application is entirely online and payment must be made by credit card at the time of application.

Scholarships
Scholarships based on financial need are available to offset costs associated with international airfare and other costs associated with study abroad. Students can apply for scholarships through the Rollins program application. Student can also apply for additional scholarships through TEAN.

Living and Working
Having a credit card while abroad is very helpful. Australia has a high cost of living compared to the United States. Students are able to work up to 20 hours a week on a student visa while abroad in Australia.
