France: Spring Break Field Study
INT 295F: France - Global Citizenship
What does global citizenship look like in action? During this field study, students will be based in Aix-en-Provence and will build foundational knowledge of French culture and the contemporary French context. Activities will include an introduction to the business of wine, connections with local French University students, French survival language classes, visits to organizations and non-profits working to support diverse communities in the region, a dinner with a local family, an art class and more. Visits to nearby cities like Marseille, Cassis and Avignon will introduce students to the region of Provence and its interconnections with the broader Mediterranean region. Students will develop awareness of their own and other cultures, engage and empathize with other worldviews, and practice an open-minded approach to cultural difference. Ultimately, the course will challenge students to become global citizens: mindful travelers who practice cultural humility and take every opportunity to build their intercultural knowledge and skills.
