EDU 346F: Austria - Education for Sustainable Development
Experience one of the world's most sustainable cities while exploring the intersection of education, sustainability, and social innovation through school visits, guest lectures, community engagement, service learning, and cultural experiences. Along the way, you'll hike the scenic Vienna Woods, walk the same paths once traveled by Mozart and Beethoven, explore castle ruins overlooking the Danube River, and visit the Schönbrunn Zoo, the oldest zoo in the world. The program also includes visits to the Hundertwasser Museum, known for its focus on environmental sustainability, and the Belvedere Museum, home to iconic works of art. The experience ends with a Mozart and Strauss concert and a Danube Canal cruise, offering a unique view of Vienna’s vibrant street art and historic landscape.

- Course Requirements: Before the field study, students will explore resources on sustainable development and global challenges through readings and group discussions. During the program, they will maintain a daily journal, participate in daily debriefing sessions, and complete a field study reflection paper. Additionally, students will collaborate in small groups to create multimedia presentations (e.g., video, podcast, infographic, or digital story) on a global challenge to illustrate how their experiences and insights connect to real-world sustainability and social innovation initiatives.

- Estimated Program Fee: $2,900
- Program Fee Includes: Tuition, housing, some meals (breakfasts, lunches and one group dinner), program administration, on-site activities, on-site transportation, and emergency insurance.
- Estimated Additional Costs: Roundtrip airfare from Orlando International Airport (MCO) $1,000, meals not covered $242, Passport $165, personal expenses $125, federal loan fees $0, books/course materials $0, and professional licensure/certification $0.
