HIS 3XXF: South Africa - Problems and Possibilities in South Africa

Experience the awe and diversity of South Africa's geography, history, people, and environment. Spend several nights in a village of people indigenous to the Western Cape. Visit Robben Island, the Cape of Good Hope, and Table Mountain. Help in an after-school program in Soweto. Explore a private safari reserve on the Western Cape.

  • Prerequisites: Either HIS 125 Cape Town or rFLA 300 Harnessing Opportunity: Innovation in Southern Africa
  • Course Requirements: Report on the impact of tourism on indigenous life, regular discussions, participation in pre-travel meetings and all activities during travel, intercultural competency reflection, final program evaluation.
  • Anticipated Number of Students: 12
  • Estimated Program Fee: $1,500
  • Program Fee Includes: Roundtrip airfare from Orlando International Airport (MCO), tuition, housing, meals, program administration, on-site activities, on-site transportation, and emergency insurance.
  • Estimated Additional Costs: Passport $165, personal expenses $150, federal loan fees $0, books/course materials $0, and professional licensure/certification $0. 
  • Visa: Not required for U.S. citizens.
