Hawks Receives Helen A. Ward Crossley Distinguished Service Award

The award is granted annually to a long-standing staff member who’s provided outstanding service and dedication to the College over time.
Matt Hawks, associate vice president of human resources and risk management, has been honored with the 2025 Helen A. Ward Crossley Distinguished Service Award for Staff.
Hawks was nominated for this award for his exceptional service and dedication to the College throughout his 28-year tenure. Hawks’ contributions have consistently demonstrated performance above and beyond normal job expectations, embodying the spirit of the award.
Hawks’ commitment to service excellence and leadership has been pivotal during some of the most challenging years in higher-education administration. He has shown unwavering commitment to the care and equitable treatment of every employee and their families. His calm demeanor and sense of humor have helped colleagues navigate challenging situations, and his steadfast commitment to fairness ensures all staff have the opportunity to succeed.
In addition to his work on campus, Hawks has regularly represented Rollins in the community and has significantly contributed to the professional growth of his higher-ed colleagues through his leadership within the CUPA-HR Florida Chapter, Southern Region Board, and various national committees. By spearheading initiatives that promoted best practices in higher-education human resources, he has created opportunities for professional development, networking, and knowledge sharing. His guidance, mentorship, and advocacy have fostered a culture of continuous learning, ensuring that his HR team is well-equipped to navigate the evolving landscape of human resources in higher education.
The Helen A. Ward Crossley Distinguished Service Award for Staff was established in 1999 as a means of recognizing Rollins staff members for their outstanding service and dedication to the College. The award is granted annually to a staff member whose contributions to the College over time most consistently demonstrate exceptional performance above and beyond normal job expectations. The award is named for Helen Crossley, who served under five College presidents over 59 years and personifies this recognition.
