At the recent 2025 Florida Commuter Transportation Summit held in Orlando, Florida, Rollins earned one of the 2025 Transportation Options Awards for Innovative Program, recognizing the College’s collaborative work on sustainable commuter transportation.

“This recognition underscores our unwavering commitment to providing exceptional services and support to our commuter students and affirms our ongoing efforts to create a commuter-friendly environment that enhances the overall college experience,” says Michelle Perez, executive director of retention and student success. “The Innovative Program of the Year award celebrates the creative, sustainable, and accessible programs we’ve developed to promote belonging, student success, and well-being. Commuters are a vital part of our campus community, and the work we’ve done ensures that those who travel to campus each day have the resources, support, and infrastructure they need to thrive—both academically and personally.”

The College has developed a suite of new programs and resources to directly address the biggest challenges facing commuter students—from feelings of isolation to transportation barriers to a lack of tailored engagement. Initiatives like the Foxbike Program and Bicycle Shop, commuter lounge with free snacks and essentials, student-run Rush Hour Radio, and the ReThink app for sustainable transit all work to build community, boost accessibility, and create a more inclusive campus experience for commuters at Rollins.

Rollins also hosted 16 Florida Commuter Transportation Summit members on campus, giving a brief presentation of the College as a whole and the initiatives for commuter students, as well as a student panel and a tour of the commuter lounge and bike repair shop.

The Florida Commuter Transportation Summit is an educational resource for members of the Florida Department of Transportation’s Commuter Assistance Programs and other transportation professionals around the state and beyond. The three-day event includes networking opportunities, education, and interactive mobile workshops in which attendees dive into the latest trends and technologies in transportation.
